LiS: Precision Technology Education
The LiS (Leiden Instrument Makers School) is a vocational education institute specialised in Precision Technology. It has a heritage of more than 100 years of training research instrument makers. During 4 years of intensive training in areas like precision machining, glass processing, optics, and mechatronics its students become well-regarded and sought-after precision technology graduates. They work in sectors like semiconductors, space, medical and research instrumentation across the Netherlands and abroad.
The mission of the LiS is to offer excellent education aimed at conceiving, designing and building innovative precision devices that integrate various technologies into unique instruments of high quality. The school is well connected with high-tech companies, research institutes, medical centres, and universities. LiS Engineering is a specific service of the LiS for 3rd parties: contract production by LiS students. In this way, students are confronted with a variety of product specifications, materials, and advanced constructions. LiS Academy offers training for professionals in collaboration with partners, for instance a summer school on manufacturability.
